Waikato’s Jordan Smiler, cited for a dangerous tackle in the Canterbury vs Waikato match on Friday 14 August 2009, appeared before New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) Judicial Officer Peter Hobbs at a hearing in Wellington today.

Henry names test side for Bledisloe

All Blacks Coach Graham Henry and his Assistant Coaches Steve Hansen and Wayne Smith have named the All Blacks team to play the Investec Tri Nations – Bledisloe Cup Test against Australia at ANZ Stadium, Sydney, on Saturday 22 August.

Canterbury continue winning big with a 5 try, 46 point haul against Waikato, 21 points from the boot contributed by recalled All Black, Daniel Carter. Meanwhile, Bay of Plenty kept their lead in the table with a narrow victory over Wellington.

Carter underlined his value by opening an 11 point gap at the top of the point scorer's table. (See below). Now on 55 points - including a solitary try, four conversions and fouteen penalties, the Canterbury man looks set to be the top point scorer again, with little sign that anyone is going to catch him.

Mulipola suspended

Otago and Highlanders player Lucky Mulipola has been suspended from all rugby until Monday 7 September 2009 as a result of misconduct arising from his involvement in an alleged physical altercation in Dunedin on 22 May 2009.

Mulipola, 26, was censured by the New Zealand Rugby Union (NZRU) this week following a meeting with NZRU General Manager Professional Rugby Neil Sorensen and Highlanders management. It related to an alleged incident, after which, Mulipola was charged with assault with intent to injure. The matter is currently before the courts.
